Unfortunately I didn’t have my passport (we always carry copies of ours and leave the originals in the safe) on me. But if you visit Berlin you might want to make sure you have yours.

I didn’t know you could use copies. Interesting.
You have to have your real passport at border checks. And depending where you are, you can carry a copy of your passport. It’s always best to check State Department’s website to collect information of what’s required.

Me too. Many of the places we visited in Europe didn’t even check our passports so no stamps–very disappointing.
Wow… this is very interesting. Poor guy holding an umbrella. Why it says’ real passport’? Are there fake people pretending to stamp passports or what?
It’s a reminder that East and West Germany were once separated.
You need a visa to get to Berlin even though you are already in Germany?
This is a visa for East Berlin–a think it’s a tourist trick and a memento from when East and West Germany were two separate countries.
I didn’t see this last time we were there but then I got a for real visitor visa to go from East-Germany to West-Germany before the reunification!!!

My fiancé had his passport stamped at one of these stalls – it was a strange occurrence really, seeing as his grandmother had escaped East Berlin to the USA! Definitely agree with recommending it
