Travel Photo of the Day (June 12)–Answer to yesterday’s mystery

Yesterday I showed a photo of people waiting anxiously for something or someone to appear. Many of you had some humorous guesses and thanks for the laughs. Without further ado, here they are: the Borneo pygmy elephants. If you look behind the one in the middle you’ll see the baby. And you may notice that the adults are telling us to back away or else.

Nice answer to yesterday’s puzzle, TBM 🙂 Are they really pygmy elephants or is it just their name? They don’t look small to me at all 🙂

  2. winsomebella says:

I wouldn’t want to get in their way :-). Nice shot!

  3. adinparadise says:

Well worth waiting for, I’d say. 🙂

  4. lynnsbooks says:

They’re giant pygmy’s! I love elephants – especially babies. When you said they were pygmys I let my imagination run riot and was picturing these miniature ones that were about the size of a pony! That would have been quite cool.
    So, no aliens then!
    Lynn 😀

  5. IsobelandCat says:

    Too beautiful. What wonderful creatures.

  6. megtraveling says:

Elephants are my favorites – great pictures!

  7. Baby elephants are so cute, they remind me of Dumbo. 🙂

Cool! Those are worth waiting to see!

  9. Thanks for commenting on my guest post on Tania’s blog. I’m so glad I’m visiting today for the cute elephants and not yesterday for the creepy crawlies 🙂

  10. Awwww, elephants are right up there with monkeys for me, but they would do even more damage to my library than the monkeys I think LOL!! Do you have any pictures of the baby?? Baby elephants are sooo adorable ;).

    • TBM says:

For the most part the baby stayed out of sight. I’ll share more photos about the elephants and the story behind this sighting tomorrow.

  11. samokan says:

WOW !! I want to ride on one 😀 the family looks so cute,

  12. I love this photo – there’s something so elegant about elephants. I absolutely can’t wait for the day when I see them in the wild like this. It must have been an incredible experience.:)

  13. nrlymrtl says:

I guessed humans. These are just as intelligence, but far more interesting.

  14. T.F.Walsh says:

Wow… I would love to see this in real life…:)

  15. bulldog says:

They are more or less the size of the Indian elephant aren’t they????

    • TBM says:

The origin of their name is a little confusing, since yes, they are about the same size. Maybe slightly smaller, but not small enough to warrant pygmy in my opinion.

  16. No wonder everyone was charmed. How adorable – especially the baby.

  17. Well TBM, I said transportation for yesterday’s photo and elephants can transport! 🙂
    Thanks for posting the answer:-)

  18. The Hook says:

Don’t mess with a parent.. of any species!

  21. Pygmy elephants would have been my next guess. 🙂
I hope the people did back away. I hear elephants can run quickly when motivated.

Thanks for commenting, I would love to hear from you.
