Thank You WordPress and Akismet

I would like to take a moment and say thank you to WordPress and Akismet. I know the last ten days couldn’t have been fun. It wasn’t for me. When I first noticed that most if not all of my comments were sent to spam I was irate. And then I tried to contact WordPress and all I got was silence. Slowly other bloggers started to communicate. WordPress listened and let us know to email Akismet directly. Again, the silence was deafening.

Then the scope of the problem became clear. This was affecting not just a few bloggers, but a lot. Iโ€™m not sure about the actual number. Akismet had to deal with the issue case by case. Sounds like an awful few days at the office. But they did get back to me eventually and all of a sudden I no longer had problems commenting.

I would have preferred more communication in the beginning, but I do appreciate their efforts and as far as I know, it has been resolved. Thank goodness. I look forward to catching up with many of you over the next week.

One good thing about the situation was I met several bloggers who were kind and helpful. Calmgrove who I communicated with during this ordeal asked me if I would join him in thanking WordPress and Akismet. I happily agreed. Please hop over to his blog to read his eloquent thank you.

  3. I also want to add my thank you!! It was frustrating but they did help in the end and I am really grateful for being able to communicate with everybody again!

      It was a difficult few days for many of us, but they did come through. I imagine behind the scenes many workers were feverishly trying to solve the problem. At least that’s how I like to picture it.

  4. I have come to realize that being patient like you were is the only way to be in the technological world we live in. I can’t even imagine anymore what it would be like without email, blogging, and the internet in general because they have changed my life and allowed me to meet so many wonderful people. However, technology is definitely fallible, and although I don’t welcome crashes, downtimes, viruses, and even commenting problems like you had, they are inevitable, and all we can do is ask for help and be patient because these techies do not have easy jobs! Good for you for saying thank you :).

      I agree completely. And it’s always good to remember that when things like this happen we are not alone. It affects a lot of people so patience is needed. It’s not good to shout, “Hey it’s all about me.” I am glad that it’s over. Very glad! And I’m happy that so many bloggers pulled together to help.

    Most of the time spam is spam but from time to time other comments do sneak into that category and have to be reclaimed. I’m amazed at how much useless stuff is sent.

    I’ve sent an email to the Akismet guy who contacted me (once) to reiterate our appreciation but haven’t had any response. Possibly may never, but at least gratitude was expressed!

    Thank you for shedding a little light, TBM. First day back today and passing through my Dashboard I spotted 86 Spam! You were among them, though many were the usual culprits. I hadn’t even realised there was a glitch. ๐Ÿ™‚

      I don’t think they hear thank you enough. Just grumbling. Thanks for helping us tell them we do appreciate their hard work.

      Thanks, Novroz. I don’t envy computer people when systems go down or act funny. People get mad quickly. I tried to be patient, but it was frustrating.
